Take Care of Yourself

Is it just me or is it hard to believe February is already upon us?!?!?!?!  It seems as though each year passes more quickly than the previous.  The saying, “Time flies,” becomes truer a statement the older I get.

If you’re also like me, the daily grind of life and responsibilities can become pretty weighty at times and even somewhat overwhelming from time to time.  As you’re reading this, if you find yourself in one of those moments of overwhelmedness, I want to encourage you to stop, take a deep breath and know that although it seems like you are in a flood at the moment, you will not drown and the waters will recede.  When we are tired and battle weary from the storms/circumstances of life, it is easy to lose focus of all that is good & right.  Take time to refocus or as I also say DETOX from life.  How?  Take time for YOU!!!

Life is challenging and because of that, it’s vital that you take care of yourself and take time for YOU!  It doesn’t have to be a week vacation, although if you can do that, DO IT!  It could simply be going to get your nails done, out for lunch or dinner with a friend(s) or taking your work lunch break to go to the local coffee shop and read a bit in your favorite book or go for a short walk.  Whatever it is, do it just for YOU!!!!  Taking time for yourself is not selfish!  In fact, it’s vital for you and those in your life.  When you’re frazzled, exhausted, or even discontented, that will impact everyone around you and even affect your health.  I can hear someone saying, “You don’t know my schedule!  How can I make time for me?!”  How?  Just DO IT!!  Let something else go!  You don’t have to be superwoman.  Tell someone or something on your schedule, “No,” and use that time slot for yourself.  Call it a mental health appointment/day for you! J

It’s important to enjoy this life, not simply survive it.  Believe me, I understand how easy it is to allow responsibility and worry to suck the fun out of life, but only you can prevent that from happening.  You know when your mind and/or body is sinking into that zone.  In those times, shake yourself!  Makes me think of our fur-babies when they come inside from being out in the rain.  As soon as they come inside the door they start shaking their entire body to get the water/raindrops off.  It’s a pretty comical sight.  That’s what we have to do mentally/emotionally sometimes… shake the fear, worry, anxiety, fun-sucking circumstances/attitude off!  Since February is the known for Valentine’s Day and the month of love…. I highly encourage you to show some love for yourself by taking better care of YOU.
