Live This Life

Live This Life! Your first response may be, “duh, I am…I’m alive aren’t I?!” However being alive and living are too different things. We all begin life full of whimsy, hopes, dreams, roaring imagination, with open arms to life and all the potential it holds. However, as time passes, our age increases, disappointment at unfilled dreams incur, and the day to day grind of the responsibilities of life go by, we sometimes fall into the category of simply existing rather than living.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary has a long definition for “Live,” but the portion I want to focus on is this: “to exhibit vigor, gusto or enthusiasm in; to experience firsthand; to be thoroughly absorbed by or involved with; to have a life rich in experience.” Believe me, I know firsthand how easy it is to get caught up in the daily responsibilities of life. Getting up and out the door to work, school, doctor’s appointments, meetings… making sure bills are paid, family is fed, house is cleaned, cars are maintained, dogs are bathed, all the many responsibilities you carry are fulfilled, and trying to squeeze in some time for yourself (I call it personal mental health days) is an all encompassing and sometimes overwhelming venture. If we are not careful, we’ll unwittingly be going thru the motions of life without actually living our life.

I encourage and challenge you today to stop for a moment, get away to a quiet spot by yourself and take the time to evaluate which you are, alive or living. If you realize you’re simply alive, that’s not a reason to get depressed or to beat yourself up, or scrutinize yourself. It’s a time to put into action a plan to change that and begin to live your life to the fullest. Our life circumstances don’t have to be perfect to enjoy life. Actually, if you wait for everything in your life to be perfect, you’ll never be happy! Sorry to disappoint you! 🙂 Life is full of up’s and down’s, but we can have joy and peace in the midst of it all. Life is precious and we only get one go around here on this earth. Let’s max it out and make the most of each moment. Even during the daily grind of traveling the highways, enjoy the scenery…that beautiful sunrise coming up over the rolling, fog covered horse pastures. BEAUTIFUL!!!! That infectious baby’s laugh or uninhibited bee-bopping dance moves, the hug of a dear friend or loved one, the American flag being raised in Cuba. In every day there are moments to be cherished and enjoyed. Don’t miss them.
